Observatory Park

Observatory Park (often called Observatory Hill Park) is one of Sydney’s most scenic dog-friendly green spaces. Perched above Millers Point, it offers sweeping views of Sydney Harbour, the Harbour Bridge, and the city skyline—making it a favourite spot for picnics, sunset watching, and photos. Despite being close to the CBD, the park feels peaceful, with expansive lawns shaded by heritage fig trees and paths winding past the historic Sydney Observatory.

For dog owners, the park includes a designated off-leash area, giving pups plenty of room to run while their owners enjoy the harbour views. Locals often bring their dogs here in the late afternoon, when the golden light adds even more magic to the setting. With public toilets on-site, shaded lawns, and easy connections to nearby attractions like The Rocks and Barangaroo, it’s a convenient and welcoming choice for both locals and visitors.

👀 What Could Be Improved

  • Parking – On-street parking is limited and metered, so public transport or walking in is often easier.

  • Crowds – The park fills quickly at sunset and on weekends, especially during events or New Year’s fireworks.

  • Exposure – While there are large fig trees, some areas are open and can feel exposed on hot or windy days.
